questions to ask a surveillance and access control vendor

1. Should we choose the vendor with the lowest quote?

Not automatically. A lower quote sometimes excludes support, maintenance, or key equipment that gets added later as an extra cost. Comparing what’s actually included matters more than comparing the bottom-line number alone.

2. How many vendors should we get quotes from before deciding?

Most businesses benefit from comparing at least three vendors. This gives a realistic sense of typical pricing, response commitments, and equipment options without dragging the evaluation process out too long.

3. What's the biggest mistake businesses make when choosing a security vendor?

Focusing on the installation itself and not asking enough about ongoing support. A system that isn’t maintained, updated, or backed by responsive support tends to lose reliability well before the hardware itself wears out.
